Shopping local keeps your sales tax dollars working for you in your city of residence.  Each time you shop you are charged sales tax - a portion of that sales tax goes to the city to fund vital community services such as police, fire, streets, parks, and economic development. 

Additionally, the more taxes generated through sales tax the less likely it will be that the City will have to raise property taxes to help fund essential city services.

The Math Answer:
Each time you make a purchase you are charged 8.25% sales tax. 
That percentage is divided between the State of Texas and the City of Mansfield.  The State of Texas receives 6.25% and the City of Mansfield receives 2%. 

The City's percentage is further divided out with 1% going to the City's general fund, 1/2% to fund economic development and 1/2% to fund parks.

The City's general fund pays for police, fire, streets and much more.

Economic Development focuses on attracting desirable industries and commercial developments to the City of Mansfield and retaining and assisting in the expansion of existing industries.

Parks and Recreation promotes, organizes, implements and evaluates a wide variety of leisure programs for youth, teens, adults and senior citizens in the community.

These leisure programs include: athletic leagues, operation of the Mansfield Activities Center, educational and recreational programs, special events, supervised children's programs, trips and tours, and facility reservations.
